“Love is just a word until somebody comes along and gives it meaning.”

Former pro wrestler Marc Mero brought an entire auditorium of secondary school students to tears with his story about why we should never take our mums for granted.

Speaking at a US middle school, Marc laid himself bare, divulging why he regrets treating his mum badly growing up – and poignantly, how he realised this all too late.

“My mom wouldn’t go to bed until she knew her son was still alive,” he said, in reference to his problems with drugs and the time he spent hanging around with a bad crowd.  “I’d walk in and she’d say, ‘Hi Marc, how was your night?’ and I would say, ‘I’m tired, I’m going to bed’ and she would say, ‘Marc I haven’t seen you all day can I please talk to you?’ And I would say, ‘Aw man leave me alone you’re bugging me,’ and slam my bedroom door on the ONE person who believed in me.”

The audience of students were moved to tears in less than four minutes, as Marc sent home the message about what’s truly important in life.

We found ourselves thinking about our own mums watching this, and of course, about our kids too. And yes, s*** got emotional.

Warning: tissues are a must.
