Before giving birth, some mums like to enjoy one last holiday with their other half before they become consumed by baby. However, being pregnant can be a worrying time so here are six ways to enjoy your holiday and stay safe at the same time.

Choosing your destination
When it comes to choosing your destination, try to stay as close to home as possible if you are a few months gone. Make sure you choose a location that has medical facilities that are on par with your own facilities at home.

Mode of transport
While it is possible to fly during pregnancy, some airlines don’t let you fly after the 25th week while others let you fly until your 30th week, so make sure you double check the fine print. Travelling by boat can be handy and if you are staying at home, bring the car which is great for those extra toilet breaks that you no doubt will need.

Choose the right time
When it comes to deciding on when to go, make sure you go at a time that is not too close to your due date. Avoid going during times you have scheduled antenatal appointments as well as you won’t want to miss these.

Stay safe
Make sure you stay safe when abroad. Avoid consuming  foods that are dangerous and stay away from water that is not considered safe for consumption, even in the shower and when brushing your teeth. If you are going somewhere hot, make sure you stay hydrated and drink enough water and stay out of the sun.

Tell your doctor
Make sure you tell your doctor that you are planning on going away. They may be able to offer your particular advice when it comes to a certain place or advise on whether it is safe for you to go abroad or not.

Talk to your travel insurance
Give your travel insurance provider a quick ring and find out what they do and do not cover when it comes to travelling while pregnant. You don’t want any unexpected bills if you find that you do have to call in to a hospital while away.
