On a sunny day, there are few places more gorgeous than Cornwall, and the seaside town of St Ives has proven particularly popular among families.

However, for all those hoping to take a dip with the town’s famed sealife, a special warning has been shared.

The town’s Harbour Master has urged visitors not to swim with, or feed the local seals, as it could have dangerous results.

Swimming in the sea with the visiting seals has become a popular attraction for locals and holiday-makers alike, but signs have recently been erected to warn people against it.

The Telegraph quotes Steve Bassett as saying: “These are wild animals, they are not tame. The biggest fear is that the seal – with its powerful jaws – could rip off a child’s arms. It is as easy as that.”

“If seals are both going for territory, they can be extremely aggressive. And when a hand comes out towards them, they will think that’s food,” he added.

While it may seem like a pleasant activity to treat the kids to, it’s best to pay heed to these warnings in the interests of safety.
