A poor little dog, who got lost on the trains tracks, was taken to safety all thanks to the quick thinking of a train conductor.
The hound, named Shelby, was seen near South Orange station in New Jersey at around midday where the point crew on a westbound train were made aware of her presence.
The rail traffic was then halted and conductor Howard Kempton disembarked from the train to rescue the canine.
The photo below, uploaded to Facebook by the New Jersey Transit shows that Howard and Shelby safely together on the train.
The post explained that the brave conductor, ''halted train traffic to sprint after a lost dog on the tracks, then forfeited his tie to make her a leash.''
He commented writing, ''I’m glad I was at the right spot at the right time. I must say I couldn't have done it without the South Orange police officer who pointed out to my engineer Mike B that there was a dog in the tracks and then informed me, and the State Trooper who also assisted me tracking her down.”
People were touched by this sweet story and wrote about how he deserved to be rewarded for his good deed.
One wrote, ''give Conductor Kempton a 15% raise and a month off. This is what doing your job with pride and compassion is all about.''
Another said, ''so nice that you have a kind and caring employee. Great job Howard!''
Some more good news followed in that Shelby and her owner were reunited, who wrote on the post saying, ''thank you Howard, and Danielle for saving my little Shelby! You are heroes and I am forever grateful!”
Stay safe little pup - conductors like Howard might not always be around to save the day.
