An eight-year-old girl is doing something special for families in need in her hometown.
She wanted to make sure that all the children in Charlotte, North Carolina get to have a Thanksgiving meal.
In early October, Alex Fischer set up a lemonade stand selling sweet drinks and sugary treats to raise money.
The funds allowed her to purchase and fill individual food boxes and donate them to Charlotte Rescue Mission - a nonprofit organisation that distributes these boxes to families in need.
But the lemonade stand was just the first step in the girl’s master plan.
Alex and her mum set up a GoFundMe page, asking for enough money to fill 101 food boxes filled with classic Thanksgiving dishes like green beans, corn, stuffing, and pie.
Each box cost approximately $15, and the donations continued to roll in.
The girl far exceeded her $1,515 goal, raising $2,276 total. This allowed her to create 130 boxes and purchase 65 turkeys.
Alex’s mum Lisa told People: “It’s really amazing as a parent to see that the values that you’re hoping to instill in your child are coming to be.”
“It was really sweet to see how many people want to help her and I think they’ve been encouraged by her and then want to help other people as well.”
What an amazing experience for Alex! It’s sweet to see her caring so much and helping other families in her community.
