No doubt many of you will have heard, or will be following the story of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe – the 37-year-old mum who was detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in April, and separated from her British husband Richard and their one-year-old daughter, Gabriella in the process.
Nazanin was attempting to fly back to Britain, from a holiday in Iran, when she was arrested. She has now been held for 54 days, even though no charges have been brought against her. Initially, the authorities took her to one side over a supposed problem with her passport.
With Gabriella staying in Iran with her grandparents (her passport was also confiscated), and Nazanin being held in a group cell in prison, concerned husband and father Richard is naturally eager to be reunited with his wife and daughter.
Richard recently launched a petition to free Nazanin, and presented it to Downing Street to ask for a debate. Once the petition gathers one million signatures, he will be presenting it at the Iranian Embassy.
In the meantime, Richard’s cousin Alexandra has been in touch with MummyPages, with a very special appeal for soon-to-be birthday girl Gabriella.
The tot is due to turn two on 11th June – in a strange country, away from her parents and other close members of her family.
Fearing that his daughter’s birthday will be a lonely one for the tot, Richard has asked the people of Britain and beyond to do something special for her, by sending her a birthday card.
