Christmas is one of the most exciting yet simultaneously stressful times of the year. As well as having to shop for presents and food, you spend a great deal of time on your feet, cooking and entertaining. With the big event now over, it's time to relax and recharge your batteries as we head into the New Year. Here are some ideas for making the most of the remaining holidays for yourself and your family.

1. Visit friends and relatives

With so many friends and relatives home from all corners of the globe, and often for a mere matter of days, use the remaining holidays to visit and spend time with those loved ones you don't get to see often. This is especially important for your kids, as they get the opportunity to get to know and create memories with those who don't often get the chance to come home.

2. Make family time a priority

Before you know it, the holidays will be over, the kids will be back at school and you will be back to your usual hectic routine - Christmas and endless quality time together will be a distant memory. So, be sure to make the most of this time and plan family days and trips together. You might not get the chance for family time until the midterm in two months' time.

3. Recharge your batteries

Christmas is the most hectic time of the year for parents. As well as running around shopping for presents and food, much of your energy is spent on cooking, cleaning and entertaining. You deserve and require the chance to recharge your batteries, so be sure to take some time out for yourself. Don't set foot inside a shop for at least a couple of days; curl up on the sofa with a book or DVD, or book yourself in for a beauty treatment - rest, relax and enjoy the break.

4. Get the kids active

After a cold, dark winter and a week of gorging on chocolate and rich food, the remaining holidays offer the perfect opportunity to get the kids active and back into some kind of an exercise routine. Incorporate some outdoor activities into your family time, whether it's taking the dog for a walk or playing a game of ball. This will prove refreshing and beneficial for everyone involved.
