Animal lovers will be thrilled to hear the news that Australia has now banned the sale of cosmetics that were tested on animals.

Existing products on the shelves CAN still be sold, but from July next year no new products will be allowed.

RSPCA chief scientist Bidda Jones has welcomed the news:

“It's estimated that around 27,000 animals are still being used for cosmetic testing every year,” she said. “RSPCA Australia has been consulting with all political parties on this issue for several years, and we have overwhelming support from Australians.”

The reform will see all makeup, perfume and toothpaste banned, even if they contain ingredients that were tested on animals.

However “responsible animal testing” for drug development and medical tests will still be allowed.

The new law now brings Australia in line with the EU as well as many other countries around the world like Brazil, India and Turkey.

We hope many other countries will follow Australia’s lead and prohibit this inhumane practice.
