Rachael Bland was given the heartbreaking news that her breast cancer is incurable in April of this year.

In light of the devastating news, the BBC Radio Five presenter is now adding the finishing touches to a memoir, which will contain sweet reminders of herself, for her three-year-old son, Freddie.

"For Freddie" includes the journalist wrapping presents for the tot, that he can open from the age of four until he reaches age twenty-one.

Rachael has been married to her husband Steve for almost five years, and as their son grows, Rachael is planning to leave an "imprint" of her love behind for Freddie.

Rachael wrote honestly for the Huffington Post, saying hope and denial are two major elements to get her through the situation she is facing.

"Approaching the end of your life at just 40 years old, with a husband you adore with all your heart and a three-year-old son you love so much that if you looked at him too long your heart could burst – you need two major things to get you through. Hope. And denial," she penned.

Despite the unimaginable pain of leaving her boys behind, Rachael selflessly continues to put Freddie first and has extended her wishes for his future to family members.

"I have a Whatsapp group with Steve’s sister where I send her things I want for Freddie and his future. The things that might overwhelm and upset Steve now but she will make sure happens," she explained.

"Like not cutting his hair too short until he really insists, or my wish for him to go to the very best school and university possible, so long as that’s what he wants.

"I’m also planning and wrapping birthday presents which he can open between the ages of four and twenty-one," she wrote.

"Personal effects like my notepads – so he can see what my writing was like. Or the perfume he helped pick out for me earlier this year so he’ll remember my smell. And his all-important box of newborn keepsakes."

Understandably the mum wants to keep her memory alive for Freddie as he grows so that he knows just how much she loved and loves him.

"The main thing is that, while he’s so young, I want him to remember me in some way.

"I hope the book and these gifts and notes will leave an imprint of my love behind for the rest of his life," she added.

The journalist has said her memoir reflects "a collection of all those stories your parents tell you over the years from their point of view, mixed in with all the advice they give you."

The 40-year-old mum announced to followers earlier this week, that she has "only got days" to live.

Rachael was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and tweeted: “In the words of the legendary Frank S - I’m afraid the time has come my friends.”

She continued: “And suddenly. I’m told I’ve only got days. It’s very surreal.

Thank you so much for all the support I’ve received.”

“Debs and lozz will continue with the #youmebigc podcast. Au revoir my friends,” she added.

The broadcaster has been sharing her heartbreaking experience through her podcast You, Me and the Big C and on her blog.

Our hearts got out to Rachael and her family at this incredibly difficult time.
