Ever since Donald Trump was voted President-Elect of the United States last week, people have been rising up and speaking out in protest.
One protester in particular has stood out, though: three-year-old Kaio.
Kaio was marching in a protest in Los Angeles, on Saturday, when photographer Abigail Claire Gorden captured a powerful image of him in action.
The shot shows Kaio holding up a poster which reads: ‘If he builds a wall, I’ll grow up and tear it DOWN’.
Sharing the image online, Abigail wrote: “His expression captured me, and it was both sad and heartwarming to see this little boy walking independently amongst adults. I thought it was worth sharing.”
The image swiftly went viral across social media, with celebrities even re-posting Kaio’s message.
Attention quickly turned to Kaio’s mum, Brisa Pinho, who was with him at the march – but not all of the feedback has been positive.
Taking to her Facebook to share an insight into the fallout, she wrote: “So far, in less than 24 hours after Kaio’s picture went viral, I have received: death threats, rape threats, death and torture threats towards my child…Welcome to Trump’s America.”
Despite the negative backlash, however, hordes of people agree with Brisa’s own sentiments: Kaio will move mountains.
