There have been some really thought-provoking stories this week documenting the ‘other side’ of Christmas, and the following video has captured the idea all too perfectly.

With thousands of underprivileged Danish children set to go without presents and fancy dinners this Christmas, the Red Cross created a genius campaign to drive home exactly what this feels like.

The organisation called on several parents to tell their children that Christmas this year has been cancelled due to a lack of money – and, as you can imagine, their reactions are truly heartbreaking. Faces fall, and teary-eyed little ones are seen offering up their piggy-bank money to pay for Christmas trees and roast birds.

The relief etched on their faces when they are let in on the prank is tangible, but for many children, the reality of a ‘cancelled Christmas’ is no joke.

The Red Cross already provided 6,500 families with Christmas baskets in 2014, and they are expecting demand to rise this year.

Check out the thought-provoking video below.
