This is great news!

LEGOLAND in Florida has announced it has partnered with US autism awareness and support org Autism Speaks to make the park more autism-friendly destination for children and families.

The park is already installing large panels of sensory-stimulating activities in a quite space, and in partnership with Autism Speaks, it intends to develop and install “quiet rooms” and online maps designed especially for guests with special needs, which will offer illustrated walkthroughs of the park, so parents know what to expect before arriving.

“By partnering with Autism Speaks and making these smart changes that will benefit so many families, we're helping ensure that our resort is truly built for all kids,” Rex Jackson, the resort's director of marketing and sales told the Orlando Sentinel.

And in honour of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, the theme park will be participating in the Autism Speaks “Light It Up Blue” campaign, where iconic landmarks, schools, homes and businesses light up in blue, blue spotlights will shine on the LEGOLAND Florida entrance arch.

As well as this, park staff will be required to undertake training with Autism Speaks staff and volunteers twice a year, and all new hires are to receive educational material about autism.
