Having a New Years baby is exciting enough, but what about when there's a high speed car chase involved?
That's exactly what happened to Tiffani Von Glahn this New Years eve.
When Tiffani felt the contractions start three weeks before the due date, she hopped in the car with her partner, Carl Alewine.
They then began the hour long drive to the hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
Speaking to local media, Tiffani said they were anxious to get to the hospital on time to have a C-section:
“I was told she was a high risk pregnancy and the way she was sitting at the time, she would’ve gotten stuck and I would’ve had to have a C-section. So I was thinking there was no way I could have her naturally.”
She continued said that when she saw a cop car come up behind them she told Carl not to slow down.
“He was going about 90-95 [144-152 km/hr] and a police officer came up behind us to pull us over. And he was like, ‘Do you want me to stop?’ And I was like, ‘No don’t you stop’, because I felt her coming.”
The officer, thinking that they were fleeing from a crime, radioed for back up:
“I look back and there’s like 20 police cars, and they had the exits blocked off and everything. Eventually it got to where they had to box us in to stop us.”
The police put Carl in handcuffs for safety reasons, but little Anastasia was already well on her way. Police assisted with the delivery in the back of the car.
Carl recalled the chaos:
“I'm sitting there, watching her born on the hood of the car, fireworks going off in the background because it’s New Year’s, and then they let me out of handcuffs, and the cops started clapping and congratulating us."
Despite concerns for the pregnancy, Anastasia was born a healthy 6 pounds 2 ounces with no complications.
The new parents say that they had enough excitement in the first hour of 2018 to last a lifetime- we can really see why!
