Working on an important holiday like Thanksgiving is a total drag, so simple but beautiful gestures really do make all the difference.

This has been illustrated in the most perfect way this week, by one Florida child’s heart-warming actions towards his local police officers.

The little boy, known only by the name 'Billy', called up the local Walton County Sherriff’s office on Thursday – to invite staff around to his home, to celebrate Thanksgiving with them!

In a post shared to the official WCSO Facebook page, staff revealed that Billy ‘melted their hearts’ by asking them around for dinner.

“With all the bad calls we take on a daily basis, this one was a welcomed, happy call that made all of us smile,” said Lead Communications Officer Monica Webster.

While the staff were unable to take young Billy up on his offer, they did acknowledge his charitable gesture with one of their own – two deputies paid him a visit and gave him a ride in their police car!

Of course, police time is precious, and deputies usually wouldn’t encourage such random calls – but they were prepared to make an exception on this occasion.

Officer Webster added: “While we do not encourage this use of 911…we are so honoured at the invitation. Thank you, Billy, for making all of our days here, at WCSO.”

What a lovely little boy!
