By now, you will no doubt be aware of the story of Catherine and Greg Hughes, who lost their beautiful son Riley last year to whooping cough. Ever since their tragedy occurred, they have been petitioning for the whooping cough booster vaccine to be offered to every single pregnant woman, through their Light for Riley campaign.

Well, we are happy to report that there is some joyful news this week for the Hughes family, who have just revealed that they are expecting their third child.

The couple shared the news via the official Light for Riley Facebook page, posting a drawing of their daughter and Riley, alongside a teddy-bear and a sign reading ‘#3 due in 2016’.

“We are so happy to share with you that we are being blessed with another little superhero [or princess] this August! We are overjoyed but very nervous at the same time. We haven’t allowed ourselves to get too excited until our scan this morning, as the scars of losing Riley run deep,” they wrote.

It seems the couple’s daughter is also very excited at the prospect of being a big sister again, according to the following heartbreaking revelation.

“[She] is over the moon and keeps cuddling and kissing my tummy. She asked if the baby could be Riley again, and we explained that it would be a different baby but one that we would love just as much,” they added.

Just last month, the family shared a video of Riley’s symptoms with whooping cough, in a bid to raise awareness of the condition among families all over the world.

We are thrilled for the family, and we wish Catherine all the best with her pregnancy.
