Writer Paris Zarcilla was just running upstairs to grab a jumper, when he discovered that a new flatmate had made itself comfortable.
It was a cat, and she had just had a litter of kittens.
Needless to say, Zarcilla was shocked.
So... I JUST FOUND A CAT THAT IS NOT MINE AND IT HAS HAD BABIES UNDER MY BED. pic.twitter.com/83ktBHGgT5— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
What follows next is a thread that is the largest emotional rollar coaster we've ever seen on Twitter.
Brace yourself for Zarcilla's journey from single and carefree to a stressed father of four cat-children.
Trying to adjust to the catshit crazy reality of going upstairs to grab a jumper but instead finding a cat and 4 kittens. Am I dad now?— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
Cancelling all my plans. Crawling under the bed to spend the rest of the day with my four new children. #newdad— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
The fur-balls quickly crawled their way into his heart- and to be honest we can't blame him!
Cuteness update: I'm dying. pic.twitter.com/fJWUVnlNKh— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
I am living for these babies.— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
Any work commitments I have are now temporarily on hold. Sorry I'm a dad now.
Becoming a Cat-Dad has opened his eyes to a whole new way of life.
I feel like the veil of the universe is being lifted slightly. Like, I feel high. Is this what it feels like to have a child? I think I'm falling in love. Fuck. pic.twitter.com/0ObNMNt4vC— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
Zarcilla, who is open about his mental health struggles said that the adorable creatures are a sign that he's getting better.
This is too much. I'm approaching nirvana. I legitimately suffer from anxiety attacks and depression and my capacity to deal with it recently has been waning. The Cat Gods have smiled upon me with benevolence and turned the monsters under my bed into kittens.— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
To my cat sons and daughters, I'll be the hero you deserve, but not the one it needs right now (because of mama cat). So I'll hunt for you, because I can afford it. I'll be your silent guardian, your watchful protector. Love, #CatDad pic.twitter.com/JkaUpGzXCP— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 30 May 2018
His life has been changed in the best possible way.
Literally re-emerging from underneath the bed. Possibly now as a different person. Reborn as #CatDad. Wiser. Hairy-er. Learning secrets of the universe and life through the unexpected birth of these gaddamn fluff miracles. Praise be to the Cat Gods. Replying to concerned Twitter users, Zarcilla said that thew cat must have wandered into his room as he often leaves his back door open. He has plans to take the mother to the vet to get checked up, but at the moment it is too soon after the birth for her to be separated from her babies.
While it's possible that the cat might belong to someone else, Cat Dad has accepted that he might have to give his fur family up.
I've been meditating on this wonderful but bizarre situation and I've arrived at a place where I'm ready to accept whatever the outcome is. I can only love and care for them now in this moment. I will give them everything they need until they need me no more. All will be good. pic.twitter.com/HlQuwdRSq2— Paris Zarcilla (@ParisZarcilla) 31 May 2018
You did good, Cat Dad, you did good.
