With so much sad news hitting the headlines in recent weeks, it’s comforting to find such an amazing survival story as this.
A mother and her infant son have pulled off a ‘miracle’ survival, having been found alive and well, several days after a plane crash.
The pair were travelling on the Cessna 303 when it crashed into thick jungle on Saturday, in northwestern Colombia.
Nelly Murillo, 18, and her son Yudier, who is less than a year old, were found by a 14-person search and rescue team dispatched to the scene.
Having found the plane doors open, the team decided to search the area for any survivors. After several days spent scouring the thick brush-land, the team found Nelly and Yudier near the crash scene.
Hailing their survival as a ‘miracle’, commander of the Colombian Air Force, Colonel Hector Carrascal, said: “It is a very wild area and it was a catastrophic accident. [Yudier's] mother’s spirit must have given him the strength to survive.”
A statement released later revealed: “The lady has wounds and minor burns and apparently the child is unharmed.”
