Nine days before her due date, mum-of-three Kerry Taraba from Sydney in Australia felt pains in her tummy, so she decided to visit the hospital for a check-up. Little did she know that within minutes she would be giving birth on the roadside!

Husband Anthony was driving Kerry to the hospital, which was a mere fifteen-minutes drive from their house, when suddenly she started having contractions.

“Suddenly I felt that my waters had broken,” she told the Mail Online. “Joshua’s head was crowning and I could feel him coming out, his shoulders too. I told Tony we were going to have to stop as it became clear that the baby was not going to wait.”

With no time for an ambulance to arrive the couple had to pull over and deliver the baby together.

“It was terrifying when Joshua did eventually come out,” Kerri told the Mail Online.

“He wasn't breathing. But Tony had seen it before in the hospital with our other kids – my last baby was a slow starter too – so he patted and rubbed Joshua into breathing normally.”

And super dad Anthony even ripped off his shirt to cover the new baby!

“I remember it took at least five minutes for Tony to say ‘hang on, we've got a boy’,” says Kerri.

“We were both so scared and relieved the baby was okay we hadn't noticed yet!

“I know it sounds dramatic but when a group of five nurses hurried to me outside in the car they were glowing like angels. I felt instantly calmer. When we got inside everyone in the hospital was giving us a standing ovation.”

What an amazing story to tell little Joshua when he grows up! And a huge fair play to this mum and dad for keeping calm under such scary circumstances.
