A mother has been left traumatised after a stranger tried to take away her infant daughter last weekend – on her own doorstep.
According to the Leicester Mercury, Sarah Hunt had just arrived home from shopping on Saturday, when a woman turned up at the door of her second-floor flat.
With seven-month-old Amelia still in her buggy at the time, 28-year-old Sarah opened the door to see what the stranger wanted.
Recalling what happened next, Sarah told the newspaper: “She looked at me blankly then looked at Amelia. She said, ‘I need baby’, and grabbed the handle for the pushchair with Amelia in.”
A struggle ensued, which saw Sarah fighting to fend the woman off and prevent her from dragging the buggy through the front door.
In the end, thankfully, Sarah managed to get the door closed and she pulled the buggy to the safety of the kitchen while she called the police.
The woman, meanwhile, fled after her failed abduction attempt.
An investigation into the incident is now in motion, despite the fact that police waited until last night to take Sarah's statement - five days after the frightening incident took place.
Naturally, Sarah and her partner were keen for local authorities to take action, and so they decided to go public with their story. According to the Leicester Mercury, the police postponed the statement-collection stage due to ‘operational demand’.
Let’s hope no other families endure a similar scare.
