Accidents in the home can happen far too easily – especially where babies and children and involved – and no doubt many mums will be grateful for the following warning.

US mother Kacie McFadden has urged parents to be vigilant when giving a soother to their babies, after she found her two-month-old son choking on the broken-off teat of his soother on two occasions.

Kacie shared her warning with local news station WTVD, recounting how she saw her son Ryder in trouble and found the teat lodged in his throat on two occasions.

Recalling how she found her tot “changing colours” while struggling to get something out of his mouth, Kacie said: “I did the Heimlich…and it finally came out. It really could have killed him had I not checked on him.”

As well as the need to be vigilant when your tot is using a soother, Kacie’s story also highlights the vital importance of knowing infant and child first aid.
