It’s a sad state of affairs when an eight-year-old little boy becomes the victim of burglary, and we’re hoping that the following report will appeal to the kinder side of human nature.

A British mum has begged for the return of her son’s stolen school bag, containing ‘irreplaceable’ items.

Leigh woman Martyne Springham launched a public appeal this weekend, after thieves on bicycles broke into her Range Rover on Wednesday night and made off with young Jack’s bag, coat and Nintendo DS.

Jack has learning difficulties, and what makes this story all the more heart-breaking is that the stolen bag contains the very first piece of homework he ever completed on his own. Documenting a recent trip to a fire station, the homework was praised by teachers and marks a huge milestone in Jack’s education and development.

Naturally, the homework means a lot to proud Jack – so much so that Martyne has not yet had the heart to tell him that it has been stolen. She is now hoping that, by appealing to the public, she will get the exercise book back without ever having to break the news to her son.

The bag features West Ham United Football Club’s crest and colours, while the all-important homework is contained in a green exercise copy.

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with the police on 101.
