Being a mum is the toughest job in the world, whether you work in an office or are a stay-at-home mother. All too often, however, it seems that the role of the mum who dedicates her days to running the household and looking after the family can be taken for granted.

Ryshell Castleberry wanted to prove this point, and did so this week by sharing an incredibly powerful Facebook post paying tribute to the wonderful and hard work of a stay-at-home mum.

Ryshell sets the scene of a conversation between Mr Rogers, who works in a bank, and his psychologist. At the very beginning, Mr Rogers reveals that his wife, a stay-at-home mum, “does not work” – and then proceeds to list off the hundred-and-one things she does for him and the family throughout her exhausting day.

From feeding the family, making sure the kids are ready for school, and running errands to cleaning the house and dropping and collecting, this mum works just as hard as her husband does at the office – even more so, perhaps.

So why does he still maintain that ‘she does not work’? As Ryshell explains, this is the sad belief of many outsiders looking in.

“This is the daily routine of many women all over the world. It starts in the morning and continues until the wee hours of the night…This is called ‘doesn’t work’?! Being a housewife has no diplomas, but has a key role in family life! Enjoy and appreciate your wife, mother, grandma, aunt, sister, daughter…Because their sacrifice is priceless,” wrote Ryshell.

The final message is one that has now become a firm favourite of ours, and it’s a thought that everyone should reflect on: “The woman is like salt: her presence is not remembered, but its absence makes everything left without flavour.”
