While jewellery and photographs may hold sentimental value for parents, the new modern-day heirloom that dads are passing down to their children bucks all the traditions.

As part of new research carried out just in time for Father’s Day, online television streaming service Netflix discovered that it’s cartoons that doting dads are passing on to their little ones.

In a new survey, Netflix found that 85% of dads around the world have either already passed, or are planning to pass down a love of the shows that they grew up with.

The power of a father-child TV bonding session is clear through these latest statistics, with 75% of respondents admitting that watching these old favourites with their little ones helps them to teach important life lessons, and two-thirds of respondents are turning to services like Netflix to do this.

Meanwhile, mums are mainly driven by fond memories, with Care Bears topping the list as their most treasured classic children’s show.

Parents who enjoy using Netflix to bond with, and educate their little ones will be delighted to hear that bosses are planning to expand their already impressive collection of classic cartoons and children’s shows. While titles such as The Smurfs, Transformers and My Little Pony are already a hit on the streaming service, new versions of Care Bears and Danger Mouse will be added to the kids’ section very soon.
