There is something about the bond between children and animals that is so sacred, and the story of Connor Guillet and Ellie the Boxer dog is living proof.

The adorable duo have made headlines around the world with the tale of their special relationship – which is based on sign language!

Connor, six, was adopted by the Guillet family at just four weeks old. He was born addicted to opiates, which has led to severe health complications for him.

He was diagnosed with damage to his brain and nervous system, and is also living with autism and a chromosomal disorder called DiGeorge syndrome.

Connor is also nonverbal; and so, when mum Brandi was contacted about possibly adopting a deaf three-year-old Boxer dog, Ellie - who only responds to sign language - ‘a lightbulb went off’.

Brandi took Ellie in the very next day (just before Christmas), and it didn’t take long for the family to realise that the duo are ‘a match made in heaven’.

Connor and Ellie developed a deep bond, fast. They communicate with each other via sign language, and Ellie is incredibly gentle with the little boy. They have also been enjoying lots of cuddles and play time!

Florida woman Brandi took to Facebook to share the joy of Connor and Ellie’s story, writing: “The most BEAUTIFUL part of this adoption is my son and his dog can actually talk to each other.”

“I highly encourage adoption of deaf dogs…She is such a perfect addition to our family. We have been blessed with Ellie.”
