Alysia Montano represented the US in the London Olympics back in 2012, and yesterday, even though she is 34 weeks pregnant, she ran 800 meters in just over two minutes.

Concerns over the safety of such extreme exercise when so far along in pregnancy have been raised, but Montano says she got the OK from doctors before taking part, and hopes to dispel any misconceptions about pregnancy and exercise.

She says getting her doctor’s approval “took away any fear of what the outside world might think about a woman running during her pregnancy”.

She said she’s been running throughout her pregnancy and “felt really, really good during the whole process.

“What I found out mostly was that exercising during pregnancy is actually much better for the mom and the baby...I did all the things I normally do...I just happened to be pregnant.”
