A Manchester woman has been prosecuted for selling ‘poisonous dolls’ which has led to parents being warned to be vigilant of a batch of the dolls.

The ‘Baby Genuoa’ dolls were found to contain potentially carcinogenic chemicals by toy safety regulators who are now saying parents should steer clear.

Current standards state that it is ok for children’s toys to have 0.1pc of the chemical however, this batch of dolls contained a shocked 14.4pc.

The poisonous dolls, which were on sale in Warrington, have since been removed from the retail outlet and have resulted in the seller being found guilty of six offences related to the selling of the dolls.

“I would urge anyone buying toys to carefully look at the label to ensure the CE, manufacturers and importers name and address is present,” said assistant director for regulation and protection at Warrington Borough Council, Pete Astley.

“Some toys also carry The Lion Mark of the British Toy and Hobby Association. Consumers can be assured that a toy which bears the Lion Mark has been manufactured by a BTHA member who believes in making good quality safe toys”.
