Parents travelling by bus with buggies will now have to move to make space for people in wheelchairs.
The historic ruling made in the Supreme Court means parents in Gloucestershire will have to fold up their buggies if a wheelchair user gets on the bus.
Some of Britain’s top judges even went as far as to say that drivers should “shame the unreasonable” parents who would refuse to fold their buggies.
The decision came five years after a disabled man was told he could not get on bus as the space for buggies and wheelchairs was already occupied with buggies.
The man then took legal action against the bus company resulting in him being rewarded damages by Leeds County Court.
With the bus company appealing the decision, Mr Doug Paulley then decided to take his case further.
Yesterday, Supreme Court judges ruled that bus companies would have to put wheelchair users first, ahead of children in buggies.
The ruling means bus companies across the country will have to evaluate their signage and policies.
