Most of us could only imagine ever giving birth in the family car - and very few of us would actually want to be in a situation that meant we had to.

However, this is exactly what happened to Lauren Strunk recently, in a hospital car park no less.

Just before midnight on Monday, Lauren started having contractions.

So herself and her partner, Noah, began the short drive to their nearby hospital, where the 35-year-old was due to give birth.

Lauren's mum and Stephanie Knowles, the couple's birth photographer, travelled in a caravan behind.

However, when Noah took a wrong turn bringing him to A&E rather than the maternity department, Lauren, who knew that her baby boy was not going to wait, told him to park the car.

"She said to come over to her side to catch the baby, in her words, so I did," Noah told ABC News.

"Maybe a contraction or two later, our son was on Lauren's chest."

Thankfully, Stephanie was there to capture the incredibly quick delivery, and the beautiful first moment between Mum and Baby.

"It went through my head if I should put my camera down and help and then I said, 'I'm just going to stand back,'" Stephanie said.

"That was my goal even before, just to stand back and capture the moments, so I just started shooting."

And in a nod to the location of his birth, the couple chose Parker as his middle name.
