With Halloween drawing ever closer, it comes as no great surprise to learn that people are currently choosing to don marks and costumes in an effort to frighten each other.
Recent incidents of this nature have, however, raised serious alarm among school authorities and police officials in Kent.
According to emerging reports, a number of suspicious incidents have taken place in the Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells areas which have sparked concern among authorities.
It is understood that people travelling in vans and wearing Halloween and clown masks have approached children and deliberately tried to frighten them.
Commenting on the recent incidents, Tunbridge Wells Chief Inspector Dave Pate said: "We are still working to establish whether any offences have been committed."
The Chief Inspector has encouraged all parents to remind their children to exercise the necessary caution while travelling to and from school while also insisting that the safety of school children is of the utmost priority.
"I want to assure parents that we take the safety of all children very seriously and have extra officers on patrol around schools. I would also ask parents to make sure they remind children how to keep safe," he said.
