The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have this morning appealed to the public for help in identifying and tracking down a woman in connection with an attempted child abduction.

According to a statement on the GMP's official website, a woman sitting in the back of a grey Toyota 4x4-type car attempted to grab the eight-year-old boy while he was playing hide-and-seek with friends.

The incident occurred at the Chorlton Water Park on Maitland Avenue, at around 5:45pm on Monday, 1st August.

The statement reveals that car was parked close by to the boy and his friends as they played, and he approached after the woman began calling over to him.

When the little boy went over to the vehicle to hear what the woman was trying to say to him, she asked him if he wanted to see some puppies. The woman then grabbed the little boy’s jumper and tried to drag him into the back of the car.

Thankfully, with the help of his friends, the little boy managed to escape unharmed.

The woman is described as white, and was wearing sunglasses and a bobble hat at the time.

There were also two men sitting in the front seats of the car; both white, and one on the phone at the time of the incident.

Detective Inspector Paul Walker, who is investigating the case, said the police are very concerned over the incident.

"Clearly this is a worrying set of circumstances, and I understand people will be alarmed when they hear news of this incident, but we have a number of officers currently investigating what has taken place here and we are making numerous inquiries to trace the people involved,” he said.

He appealed to anyone with information, who was in the Chorlton area at the time and who may have seen the grey Toyota 4x4-type car to get in touch.

Anyone who thinks they may be of assistance is asked to contact the West Didsbury Police Station on 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.

SHARE to spread the word and, hopefully, stop any similar incidents from taking place.
