There are some police officers who go totally above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to serving the public, and Leicestershire policeman Danny Pattison has been credited with saving two precious lives.
PC Pattison came to the rescue of a mother and her toddler child, when the woman passed out at the wheel after falling into a diabetic coma.
According to local newspaper the Leicester Mercury, PC Pattison was first alerted to the incident when he received reports of a car speeding and driving erratically down the M1.
When he followed up and caught sight of the car, he saw that the woman was ‘unconscious’.
“Her head was completely thrown back and she was staring at the roof of the car. She was obviously unconscious. I looked in the back of the car and saw a young child – about 18 months old,” he told the newspaper.
With no backup, PC Pattison had to think fast. In a desperate bid to stop the car, he used his own vehicle to push the speeding car into a barrier and bring it to rest.
Thankfully, both the mother and the child were OK after their ordeal – and PC Pattison’s actions have not gone unappreciated.
Speaking to the local media outlet, the unnamed mother said: “Had it not been for the actions of the officer bringing my car to a stop, I dread to think what the outcome may have been.”
While the incident took place in April of this year, it only hit the news this month after PC Pattison picked up a commendation for his actions.
