Police have appealed for help in locating a man and woman who tried to snatch a baby from its mother’s arms.
According to the Metro, mum Zoe Whyman was left terrified by the incident which occurred on the doorstep of her home, in the Hatfield area of Hertfordshire.
Ms Whyman informed the police that the strangers called to her door, enquiring as to whether she needed childcare.
“The man then said to me, ‘He looks like a cute baby, can I give him a cuddle?’” she recalled.
“It was a strange comment, and my gut was telling me to shut my door, so I stepped back and, with my foot, started to push my front door shut.”
It was at this point that the man ‘launched forward and tried to grab the baby’. Ms Whyman said that she was lucky enough to be able to shut the door in time.
After watching the duo run away, Ms Whyman called the police and reported the frightening incident.
“I feel heartbroken that it’s happened, and am now worried that people have been watching me, and that’s how they knew I had kids and a baby,” she added.
While the mum has been left understandably ‘anxious’ by the incident, police are now trying to identify and track down the suspects.
An e-fit has been generated and released, and the police have asked for the public’s help in their investigation.
A representative from the local police said in a statement: “I would like to hear from any residents in the area who may have had a knock on the door from this man offering childcare.
“He was in the company of a woman, who is described as being of Asian appearance and wearing a hijab.”
