Police are investigating an incident at a nursery in Liverpool. According to reports, a man was seen entering the Childsplay creche carrying a gun.
The playschool opened shortly after 8 am on Wednesday morning.
It is understood that the children were rushed to safety when the man entered the nursery.
The suspect quickly fled the scene after an encounter with a man inside the building.
He left the scene on a motorbike. It is believed he had an accomplice with him.
The police have stated that the man was searching for someone in the building. They also said the incident was planned.
Merseyside police revealed that nobody was harmed in the incident and no shots were fired.
Childsplay nursey takes care of over 120 children who are aged between three months to five years old.
The facility was closed off as the police carried out their investigation.
Forensic officers inspected the scene of the incident.
Parents of the children involved in the horrifying incident were distraught when they collected their kids from the nursery, which is located in Wavertree, Liverpool.
They were grateful that nobody was harmed. They were relieved that the children were taken a safe area in a calm and orderly manner.
One mother spoke to the Liverpool Echo about the ordeal, “I’m scared they will come back. I think it’s cowardly that they waited for the children to go in.”
Many parents expressed their empathy for the creche that takes care of their children, “I feel sorry for the nursery. This will give them a bad reputation.”
The nursery is only three miles east of the city centre.
Police have reassured people that they have increased the number of officers in the location to ensure the public is safe.
DCI John Webster spoke out about the incident and urges those with information to come forward, “We need to identify the people responsible and put them before the courts before they cause any further harm in our communities.”
He spoke about people who are involved in gun crime and says they don’t consider others. He encouraged the community of Wavertree to gather together and stand up against gun crime in their hometown.
He urged witnesses to come forward, “Please contact our gun crime hotline on 0800 230 0600 or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The police are still at the scene of the incident and are continuing their search for the man who was carrying the gun.
