Police in Rome have melted hearts all over the world for the compassionate, dignified way they treated a lonely elderly couple.
Michele, 94, and Jole, 89 have been married for almost 70 years. Heartbreakingly, they rarely receive visitors.
And after cries from their apartment caused neighbours to phone the police, it came to light the pair were upset by the things they saw on the news.
“Attacks, abused children in a kindergarten... Jole wonders why [there is] so much evil”, wrote the police in a Facebook post.
So upon noticing there was very little food in the house, the big-hearted policemen decided to cook the couple a simple but delicious meal of spaghetti with butter and parmesan, reported the NY Daily News.
“There is not a crime. Jole and Michele are not victims of scams and no thief entered the house — there is no one to save,” the police wrote on Facebook.
“This time, for the boys, there is a more daunting task — two lonely souls who need reassuring. They understand that just a little human warmth will restore tranquility to Jole and Michele.”
People have roundly praised the police force for their kind and caring actions – and we have to agree. Looking after the elderly is such an important part of community care. We hope this story will encourage others to pop in and visit any lonely elderly people living close to them.
