When an item is stolen from us, the first thing we think of are the valuables – the cash, the mobile phone, the keys, and so on; but the real panic sets in when we remember the sentimental items that cannot be replaced by money.
This was the case for British woman Sheila Maudsley recently, when a handbag containing a precious memento from her late daughter was stolen by thieves.
According to local news, the 65-year-old was working in a charity shop when the thieves came in and robbed her bag from behind the till. Sheila’s first thought was of her driver’s licence, money, cards and keys, but then it suddenly began to dawn on her that there were much more important items inside.
Her thoughts turned to one very special keepsake – a metal key-fob that had belonged to her daughter, Maria, that she had carried around with her every day of the 20 years since her death.
Having changed the locks and replaced her cards, Sheila was naturally distraught over losing the treasured item. Someone must have been watching over her, however, as the handbag – containing most of the items – turned up in the most unlikely of places.
Sheila received a call from a cleaner in a nearby hospital centre, who had discovered the handbag stuffed down a toilet. With her driver’s licence still contained inside, they had been able to track her down, and she was reunited with her treasures.
“It’s fantastic…I’m so grateful,” an amazed Sheila told Gazette News.
We’re delighted to hear that there was a happy ending to this story.
