The world was shocked and stunned when news emerged that Alton Sterling had been shot and killed by a police officer as he lay pinned to the ground.
His death caused outrage, especially from the Black Lives Matter campaign, and many people took to the streets to convey their anger. A few days after the shooting, cafeteria manager Philando Castile was also shot as he tried to show officers his licence.
Philando’s death reignited the protests which tragically saw one man shoot and kill five officers and wound seven more.
Speaking about the violence at a press conference recently, Alton’s 15-year-old son, Cameron, called for it to end, and urged the public to protest in the “right way”.
"Protest with peace, not guns, alcohol and violence. Everyone needs to protest the right way. Not with violence,” he told the crowd. “I feel that people in general, no matter what their race is, should come together as one family."
“There should be no more arguments, disagreements, crimes, everyone should come together as one family. This [death] should give everyone a push to come together and not be against each other.”
The youngster, who called out ‘Daddy’ during the first press conference a few days after the tragedy, bravely thanked everyone for their support following his father's death.
