Candy cane hot chocolate

A festive hot chocolate that all the family will enjoy
1 litre whole milk
200g granulated sugar
200g dark chocolate, chopped
2 candy canes
250ml heavy whipping cream
4 large candy canes (to decorate)
Whisk milk and half the granulated sugar in a heavy sauce pan over medium heat,
Heat until milk is steaming, about 10 minutes; do not allow to boil.
Reduce the heat to low and add chopped dark chocolate.
Whisk mixture until chocolate is completely melted and liquid is smooth; keep warm over low heat.
Crush 2 candy canes coarsely with rolling pin and add to hot chocolate mixture stirring to mix.
In large bowl beat heavy cream until soft peaks form.
Add the remaining sugar slowly, beating until stiffer peaks form.
To serve, divide hot chocolate mixture evenly among four mugs and top with whipped cream.
Garnish each mug with a candy cane.
