There are a number of tell-tale signs that indicate that your parents are no longer safe drivers and could pose a serious risk to your child's safety when driving. Old age eventually catches up and affects driving ability. If any of the following signs relate to your parents, it could mean that its time to take away their car keys:
Frequent near-accidents
Being unable to do the proper observations due to restricted head movement
Many dents on the bumper and sides of the car, as well as damage to the gate and driveway
Other drivers hooting at them
Getting lost in familiar areas
Lack of peripheral vision when looking forward while driving
Being unable to concentrate while driving
Slow reaction time when driving and not being able to use the pedals quickly enough, and getting confused between the brake and accelerator pedals
Warnings given from traffic officers or police within the last two years
If your child's grandparents show any of the above signs of driving incompetence, then it is best to stop them from driving in the future. Not only will this protect your child from being in an accident, but will prevent possible accidents involving other road users too. Restricting your parent's independent driving is a difficult decision to make and implement, but necessary.
