There is nothing out of the ordinary about a six-month-old baby having a buddy to play and take naps with, but when it has four legs and a tail, it’s definitely a unique friendship.

The world has become captivated by the friendship of little Alia Heckathorn and Daisy, her parents’ 10-month-old pet sloth, who were brought home on the very same day.

Alia’s mum Julia, a wildlife rehabilitator and author of the book series Search for the Hidden Clover, decided that she would like to adopt a sloth with her husband at the same time that they discovered she was pregnant.

The couple welcomed Daisy into their family on the same day that little Alia came home from the hospital, and the pair have been the best of friends ever since.

“When Alia and Daisy sit next to each other, Daisy sniffs Alia while Alia nuzzles into Daisy’s soft fur. They are so sweet together,” said Julia.

Julia, however, insists that any time that Alia spends with Daisy is supervised to ensure her safety.

“I’m always there to make sure that everyone is safe. Daisy is still an animal, and they are still both babies, so you never know if one day one of the babies will decide to get feisty,” she added.

Julia and her husband are also adoptive parents to a kangaroo named Boomeroo, an anteater named Noche, and a cat named Larry.
