Interesting!

You know the way we can’t help putting pressure on ourselves to ‘ping’ back after baby? And of course because this mythical pinging is next to impossible we get frustrated and annoyed with ourselves. How come the likes of Angelina Jolie PINGED back? Where’s our ping?

But aside from the fact we need to give ourselves a break – think of the feat our body has pulled off, who cares what it looks like – there’s a good reason why we can still look ‘pregnant’ after baby.

And it all comes down to the uterus. During pregnancy the uterus expands slowly but surely, and by the third trimester it can have gone from the size of an orange to the size of a watermelon.

At about 12 weeks pregnant you uterus will start to expand outside the pelvis. And as it grows further, it will lie between your boobs and navel, pushing your organs slightly out of place and causing your tummy to stick out.

This is why it takes approximately six weeks for your belly to decrease – your uterus is gradually decreasing in size and returning to it pre-pregnancy position, which is called involution

So there you go, the next time someone has the gall to ask you if you’re pregnant even though you’ve recently given birth, simply toss you hair and say to them, “No, I’m actually involved in a process called involution where my uterus needs to decrease from the size of a watermelon to an orange. I bid you good day.”
