Heading off on a little break before your baby arrives sounds like something only the celebs do – but not according to new research.

In fact, 16 percent of expectant parents have already gone on a last-minute getaway or a babymoon, with a further 28 percent planning one for the future.

However, while you’d assume many mums would see it as the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with their other half, one in ten Brits would actually rather go on one WITHOUT their partner.

And Londoners show themselves to be even more independent with just under 30 percent preferring to go it alone.

The research, conducted by comparethemarket.com, also found that rather than women aspiring to copy A-listers in terms of destination it seems men (when they are invited) are quicker to follow the rich and famous, with 64 percent admitting that their choice would be influenced by celebrities.

As part of their poll, the company teamed up with celebrity mum, author and blogger Giovanna Fletcher to create a babymoon hub of handy information, hints and tips for anyone planning a getaway.

“It’s important that as well as preparing for the new arrival, expectant parents allow themselves time to relax and unwind and a babymoon is a great way to do this,” Gemma Sonfield, Head of Travel said.

“A key thing to remember, wherever you go on a babymoon, is to check that your travel insurance covers every pregnancy eventuality. It’s important to shop around to find a travel insurance policy that works for you and your trip.”
