A teddy bear is a special toy that has comforted children for generations, and most likely your youngster has one that they take absolutely everywhere with them. Most of us have or had a favourite teddy, with many of us still hanging on to it even now that we have kids of our own.

To celebrate International Teddy Bear Day, which takes place today, 9th September, here are a number of activities and things you and your little one can do.

Have a teddy bears' picnic
Everybody loves picnics, even more so when it’s a teddy bears' picnic. So if the weather is nice where you are, why not take the party outside. If not, simply bring it indoors. All you need are your child’s favourite teddies, a comfy blanket, some pillows and plenty of snacks. Spread the blanket out on the ground and line all the teddies around the edge. Supply cups and plates for all the guests, teddies included, and enjoy some jam sandwiches.

Teddy bear party
Everybody loves a party, but not quite as much as a child. So make some teddy bear invitations, invite your child’s friends and eat plenty of teddy bear shaped treats.

Teddy cake
You certainly can't have a celebratation without cake, obviously, it needs to be a teddy bear one. If you are feeling a little adventurous why not bake it in the shape of a bear, if not, small cupcakes with a teddy shape made from buttons would do.

Take teddy on a treasure hunt
What with it being teddy’s special day, it is important he is included in the celebrations. Set up a treasure hunt for your youngster and their teddy and let them spend the afternoon exploring the house and garden looking for treasure.

Make a bear mask
The whole family can become teddies for a day by making these really easy masks. All you need are a number of paper plates depending on how many masks you want to make. Cut up an egg carton box for the snout and glue it on the plate. Cut out two eye holes and secure string through holes on either side so it will stay on the face.

Read Paddington Bear
Why not end the day by reading this fantastic story book. Written by Michael Bond, this is a real loveable story that has been passed down generation by generation.
