Being away from your loved ones is never easy, as this dad knows well.

Marine dad John York had just 10 days to himself before he was due to be deployed.

So before he was sent 7,000 miles away, he did the sweetest thing: he celebrated every major holiday from Christmas to Halloween with his little boy, Bryan.

So the pair hit up every house on their neighbourhood block— with the little guy dressed as Woody from Toy Story— for some pre-Halloween trick-or-treating.

They opened up presents next to a tiny artificial tree for Christmas. John even made sure they celebrated Bryson's fourth birthday, complete with a cake and candles. Bryan even got a birthday present in the form of a nice, shiny red bike.

But the biggest surprise was for dad John himself. Taking a leaf out of John’s book, his wife Priscilla decided to celebrate Father’s Day early.

How? By presenting him with a video of his and Bryan’s holiday celebrations that she’d been filming all along!

"I just want you to know that I love you," it begins. "And whether you are away or home, my heart is always so full of love because you do the dad thing right."

According to Priscilla, John had no idea she was making the video.

"When I showed it to him I think he watched it 1,000 times over and over and over again," she told ABC News. "The video made his vision come to life in a way he didn't expect. I think the whole process meant more to him knowing that it was recorded like that."

What an amazing idea. Bryan is one lucky little boy! You can watch the fab vid below.
