Deputy Constable Mark Diebold, who helped deliver baby Evelyn Hall last year, recently celebrated her first birthday with a tiny tea party.
Texas native Destiny Hall went into labour on July 17, and her husband Caleb had to rush her to the hospital. As they sped in the car, Mark flagged them down from his police car, to alert them that they were going too fast. Caleb rolled down the window and explained the situation. Immediately, Mark insisted on helping them get to the hospital as quickly as possible.
However, during the drive, the baby girl made an unexpected early arrival.
"When she told me that it was happening, we were behind Officer Diebold, and he had his lights and sirens going. I kind of had a small glimpse of hope that maybe we would make it," said Caleb in an interview with ABC News.
“When we were about halfway there, my water broke, and I could tell I definitely wasn’t going to make it much longer,” added Destiny.
They were forced to pull into a car park near a petrol station. Fortunately, Mark was there to help deliver the baby. Destiny gave birth to Evelyn, who was a healthy 6 pounds, 11 ounces.
A year later, the cop and the tot celebrated with a teeny-tiny tea party in the park with their families. They posed for a shoot commemorating and signifying the friendship between a little kid and the cop who helped bring her into the world.
"It was such a remarkable way of her being born, and I just never wanted to forget it," Destiny Hall said. "It blew me away, how much this meant to him and his family. They were in tears. So, I really wanted to give him something to memorialise this day. This event was really life-changing."
“Mark Diebold, without a doubt, is one of the most genuine, loving, thoughtful and caring [people] we have ever met,” Caleb added. “He is quick to think of others, and we are so blessed to call him friend and family.”
“Officer Diebold and the Hall family have remained in close contact,” the photographer, Cyndi Williams, wrote on her Facebook page. “The Hall children even refer to Officer Diebold as Uncle Mark!”
The happy parents also took newborn photos of Evelyn with a police badge and uniform, as a thank you to the kind police officer.
