Being a nanny is a vocation, and we are sure that the hard work is well balanced-out by job satisfaction. Looking after children is one thing, though – we can’t imagine adding ghosts into the mix!

If you’re furrowing your brow in confusion right now, prepare for possibly the maddest story of the week!

A family has caused quite the stir online this week, with a rather unusual advertisement looking for a full-time nanny. This is no ordinary situation, however – the house in which the nanny will be working, at times as the sole person in charge, is haunted.

The advert went up on childcare.co.uk, and immediately attracted quite a lot of attention. Based in the stunning surrounds of the Scottish Borders, the job will be set in a ‘lovely, spacious, historic property with spectacular views’.

The successful candidate will be charged with looking after two children, aged five and seven; and, due to both parents frequently having to travel for work, she or he will often be the sole person in charge.

One look at the photo attached is enough to leave us handing in our notice and booking a flight to Scotland, and the addition of your own private kitchen and en-suite bathroom seals the deal.

“Duties would include preparing breakfast, getting the children ready for school, dropping off and picking them up from school and assisting after school, including helping with homework and getting them ready for bed,” the ad reads.

At £50,000 a year, with 28 days’ holidays, it sounds like the ideal role for a nanny looking for a new job right now – but there’s one (not so) little catch.

“We have lived in our home for nearly 10 years. We were told it was ‘haunted’ when we bought it, but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless,” explains the job poster.

Here’s where it gets really creepy: “Five nannies have left the role in the last year, each citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving.

“This has obviously been a period of great upheaval for our children. We haven’t personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we’ve been out of the house, but we’re happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it’s important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person.”

We're not sure quite how many applications the poster has received, but we’d be interested to see who is brave enough to take on the Scottish Border spooks!
