Looks like absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder.

Air Force Staff Sergeant Matthew Laughlin spent a year in South Korea before coming home.

When he finally did, he decided to surprise his kids at their primary school, and went straight from Dallas airport to the school.

And he had it all planned out.

All of the children were assembled in a hall, thinking that a special prize was about to be handed out to the lucky random winner.

Each child was hoping their name would be called, unaware that the teachers had a little secret: the prize was the airman's homecoming.

When little Jonathan saw his dad walk into the room, the five-year-old's eyes lit up and he ran into his arms!

One of the most heartwarming moments captured on video in recent months, it shows the two hugging each other tightly before Jonathan's two-year-old sister leaped up to join them!

Understandably, students and teachers were incredibly moved as they watched on.

You can watch the beautiful moment below.
