Five ladies who appeared on ITV’s This Morning amazed viewers when they explained that they all live on the same street – and they are all surrogates.
The women have each dedicated themselves to giving birth to babies for couples who are not able to get pregnant.
The ‘mum’ of the group is Karen Harris who looks after the other women when they are expecting, she is known to the other women affectionately as ‘Momma Stork’. Karen spoke of her role, saying: “I look after them all, I drive them to the hospital and back, I’m there at the birth ... people call me a Doula and all sorts.”
Karen’s daughter, Bex Harris, is another of the surrogates along with Becky, Viktoria and Jemma. The ladies have given birth to three babies between them and have another two on the way.
The women have said that a certain amount of strength is required in being a surrogate – especially when things don’t go to plan. It’s also important to have a bond with the parents-to-be, they say.
Bex spoke about the differences in each situation, saying that she may fall pregnant straight away but it may take much longer other times.
