We have all expressed anger and frustration over Donald Trump’s shocking behaviour and commentary during the presidential campaign, and a few of you out there may be concerned about the impact it’s having on our children.

Derek Steele is one such parent – and so he has taken to social media to serve up the perfect antidote.

Derek, who is father to seven-year-old Caleb and four-year-old Ethan as well as two-year-old daughter Caroline, took to Facebook to post an open letter to his sons, detailing what truly defines a ‘real man’.

Referring to Trump’s most controversial comments, Derek wrote: “Men do not, at times, talk like that. Sure, some individuals with an ‘X’ and ‘Y’ chromosome like you may say something like that, but we do not call them ‘Men’. We call them perverts, abusers, or rapists – not ‘Men’. Real Men don’t do that and wouldn’t even think to say that.”

Admitting that much of what they will hear about ‘what makes a man’ will be ‘total garbage’, Derek went on to give Caleb and Ethan his own perfect definition.

“It’s about protecting those around you who are weak or innocent…It’s being awake at all hours of the night to warm a bottle, change a diaper, change the sheets on a wet bed or even worse…It’s about being open with someone, vulnerable and accountable,” he wrote.

He added: “Real Men play dress-up and enjoy tea parties and will make a complete fool out of themselves just to hear a child laugh. They cry, even weep, when the situation calls for it. They respect, honour and cherish women because all of them are human.”

In the wake of Trump’s shocking tape scandal, the consensus is that Derek’s open letter is the perfect remedy.
