As the vast majority of people can appreciate, enduring a miscarriage is one of the most painful and heartwrenching experiences a woman can go through, so it's no surprise social media users felt compelled to comment on the shocking level of insensitivity displayed by a train company in the UK in recent days.

According to numerous media reports, passengers availing of southeastern services were subject to a particularly inappropriate announcement after a female passenger was taken ill at the Rochester station in Kent.

With little to no thought for the woman at the centre of the incident, a member of train staff explained the short delay by announcing over a tannoy system that the ill woman was having a miscarriage.

Stunned by the staff's handing of the incredibly sensitive matter, social media users took to Twitter in their droves to voice their outrage, with one writing: "They announced to a packed commuter train she'd had a miscarriage @Se_Railway hits a new all time low."

Commenting on the announcement which has caused uproar online,a  regular commuter opined: "It was entirely inappropriate. It's a private thing, and a terrible thing for a woman to have to go through. The driver should have used his loaf and thought of a way to rephrase it. I just wonder where that started."

Echoing the sentiments of their fellow commuter, another train user explained: "I was eight trains behind and the announcement we were given was that someone had suffered a miscarriage and an ambulance was on its way. The level of personal information broadcast by Southeastern was absolutely disgusting."

Responding to the criticism which followed the incident, a spokesperson for the company confirmed: "We picked up on social media that this announcement had apparently been made."

Acknowledging the public's contempt for the insensitive manner with which the incident was handled, the spokesperson insisted the matter was not yet closed, explaining: "This would be an entirely inappropriate announcement to make and we are looking into the matter."

The incident took place on Tuesday evening.
