Rory McIlroy, take note. This latest gender reveal video might give the pro-golfer some ideas.

Peter Burns, a host on US sports channel ESPN, just did the most sports-tinged gender reveal we've seen in a while.

Burns and his wife Lauren headed out to the lush golf resort of Pebble Beach for a game of golf that would tell them the gender of their baby.

Peter and Lauren enlisted the help of a doctor to choose a gold ball with either blue or pink dust that would explode when Burns hit the ball.

Burns posted the video to Twitter with the caption, "The biggest shot of my life. #7 at Pebble Beach."

The video shows exuberant Lauren, who was sure she was going to have a boy, wearing blue. While Peter, who felt a little more intuitive, wears pink. As he tees up and hits the ball, a plume of pink smoke is released.

Lauren then leaps into Peter's arms, making for one touching gender reveal video.

After watching a baseball-centric gender reveal, Burns, a former college golfer, told his wife if they ever had a kid and she wanted to do a gender reveal, he "wanted [it] to be a golf one." We'll let you watch the video for yourself to find out what colour the smoke was.

The baby will have a special meaning for Burns, who is adopted. The TV host said, "I'm adopted so my [child] will be the first blood relative I will have ever met." Get the tissues.

We love creative gender reveals, especially when there's a video to capture the excitement. One couple chose to pop a balloon, releasing smaller, coloured balloons inside. One dad's gender reveal video was particularly epic as he went skydiving and used the colour of his parachute to announce the gender of his child.

Gender reveals can go with a bit of controversy. Another US couple faced some heat online after they shot a rifle in the forest to reveal a coloured smoke while their friend shot some incredibly scenic photographs. Some commenters weren't too happy with the use of a rifle, saying it was too dangerous.
